ALIANT TELECOM INDUSTRY ADVISORY

Terminal-to-Network Interface Disclosure - Category (a)

July 8, 1999

No. ATIA-7b (Formerly NIA-7a)

Subject:

Visual Call Waiting (VCW)

Aliant Telecom Inc. on behalf of NewTel Communications Inc., announces the introduction of the VCW feature. Subject to market demand, commercial service is expected to commence in most areas of the Province that are served by the Company's digital DMS-100 end offices by IVQ99.

VCW is a terminating switch feature that provides visual information on an incoming call while the subscriber is on an existing call. This feature combines the functionality of Call Waiting (CW) and Calling Identity Delivery (CID). However, CID may not include the time and day of the call. In addition, Calling Identity Delivery occurs only on intra-switch calls and where the originating and terminating switches have end-to-end CCS#7 connectivity.

The service is intended for subscribers with Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI) compatible Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). However, the feature will work in conjunction with Type 2 and Type 3 CPE as defined in Bellcore Special Report SR-INS-002726, Issue 1, August, 1993.

The Calling Identity information is the same as that described in Stentor Interface Documents ID-0001 and ID-0012, as previously disclosed by Bell Canada in TAPAC Bulletins No. 89-04 and 92-06, respectively. VCW, also referred as Calling Identity Delivery on Call Waiting (CIDCW), has been previously disclosed by Bell Canada in TAPAC Bulletin 95-19, dated December 18, 1995.

Compatibility Impact:

None expected.

Documentation:
