Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) - NewTel Communications

Aliant Telecom Inc., on behalf of NewTel Communications Inc. ("NewTel Communications"), announces the planned commercial introduction of the Terminal-to-Network interface for an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). Service is expected to commence in the IVQ98 in selected areas of Newfoundland.

This service will use existing telephone loops having metallic continuity, to provide simultaneous voice and data capability between the subscriber and the serving central office. ADSL equipment will be provided by the ADSL service provider at the central office end of the loop and ADSL equipment will be required at the subscriber’s end of the loop. The connection to the Class 5 switch is a normal two wire, POTS interface. Both, central office and subscriber located ADSL equipment, must be certified in accordance with Certification Specification CS-03.
