Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) - MT&T

Aliant Telecom Inc., on behalf of MT&T, announces a planned technical trial of the Terminal-to-Network interface for an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). This trial is scheduled to commence in April 1997 in selected portions of the Halifax Metro region. Commercial Service is expected to commence by IIIQ97 in selected areas of Nova Scotia, subject to trial results and market demand.

This service will use existing telephone loops having metallic continuity, to provide simultaneous voice and data capability between the subscriber and the serving central office. ADSL equipment will be provided by the ADSL service provider at both the subscriber and central office ends of the loop. The connection to the Class 5 switch is a normal two wire, POTS interface. Both central office and subscriber located ADSL equipment must be certified in accordance with Certification Specification CS-03.
