Announcement

April 27, 1998

No. ATIA-3k (Formerly SIA-3w)

Subject:

FG-D CARRIER IDENTIFICATION CODE (CIC) AND CARRIER ACCESS CODE (CAC) FORMATS

Aliant Telecom Inc., on behalf of NBTel Inc., Island Telecom Inc., Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company, and NewTel Communications Inc., previously Disclosed on December 14, 1994 (TAPAC Bulletin No. 94-11) that both 3 and 4 digit Carrier Identification Codes (CIC), and both 5 and 7 digit Carrier Access Codes (CAC) would be supported until the end of a permissive period. The end of this permissive period has now been determined to be April 1, 1999.

Until the end of the permissive period, calls can be directed to a competitors' network where FG-D (equal access) is provided by dialing a 5 digit CAC in the format 10XXX, where XXX is the CIC of the carrier of choice. Introduction of the 4 digit CIC format required expansion of the CAC to 7 digits in the format 101XXXX, where XXXX will be the CIC of the carrier of choice.
